The Sea of Discomfort
Have you ever visited the Sea of Discomfort? I have.
It’s not a physical place. Walk with me, if you will, along the shoreline. The air is humid, heavy with anticipation of rain but there’s a gentle breeze to cool your steps. There’s a storm out at sea, black sky and the occasional strike of lightning beautiful in stark relief. But the sky above you is a dark blue, laden with clouds holding their rain for another day. Interestingly, the storm out at sea doesn’t impact the shoreline we’re walking along. It’s calm and gentle. Listen to the sound of the water lapping at the shore. It’s warm and inviting. The Sea of Discomfort has a soft and gentle voice; a quiet reminder, whispering, “Things are changing! This is different. I want you to be prepared… Are you ready?” It’s peaceful and non-intrusive, however, as you’ll soon see, it hasn’t always felt that way for me.

Tap Into Joy
I’ve been working on shifting my perspective around things I don't enjoy. To see them as small, easy, and dare I say fun tasks, instead of overwhelmingly depressing and tedious tasks that would like to end me.
The perspective shift has been helping, but I want faster change, which brought me to the question I'm focusing on in today's blog, "What if I tapped into joy?"

Who is defining your success?
“Do you define success or does it define you?”
This is one of the questions that Rachael let fly as we discussed things that spark us. We were wrestling with the fact that how we define success has a huge impact on how we live our lives. The conversations felt energetic and zesty. Rachael pointed out that a healthy definition of success can be a great way to track growth and help hold yourself accountable OR it can be a measuring stick used to beat yourself up.

The New New Year’s Resolution
I have a confession—I’ve never liked new year’s resolutions. I haven’t just disliked them, I’ve hated them.
New year’s resolutions feel daunting. Like guilt ridden traps set to snap closed and strangle with shame. Sounds terrible right?! But I found an alternative… an intention.

The Snapshots In-between
Have you ever found yourself on a journey and all you’re focused on is the destination? The journey to get there is just a frustrating interlude... I often find myself so focused on the destination that I completely lose sight of being present on the journey.
Think about your entire life from the perspective of a photographer – taking snapshots every few seconds. Each snapshot is a reflection of who you are but it’s only a piece of the much larger puzzle that makes up the whole of your life. Do you focus only on the vacation snapshots? Do you ignore the ones in between-discarding them as meaningless? What if you let yourself absorb the beauty, of the in between moments, even if they aren't as exciting?
